Community Guidelines
Be yourself
- Your names are seen by everyone. Keep your username, display name, bio, club names and photos free of slurs, hate symbols, sexual content, threats and insults. Your username is permanent, so choose one you'll still like next year.
- Be you, not someone else. Don't pretend to be another person, an artist, a band, a label, a brand or Songbestie. Fan accounts and jokes are fine as long as nobody could mistake them for the real thing.
- Your profile photo is visible to everyone, so pick one you'd be happy for anyone to see: no nudity, gore or hate symbols, and nothing you don't have the right to use.
- One account per person. Don't create accounts to get around a block or a ban.
Be kind, even when their taste is terrible
- No harassment or bullying. Don't insult, mock, humiliate or pile onto people, and don't keep contacting someone who has made it clear they don't want to hear from you. Roast the song, not the person.
- No hate. Don't attack or demean people because of their race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, caste, sex, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, serious illness or age. That includes slurs, stereotypes presented as facts, and hateful songs added or described to target people.
- No threats. Don't threaten, wish or encourage violence against anyone, even as a joke.
- No sexual harassment. Don't send sexual messages or comments to people who haven't welcomed them.
Keep people safe
- Self-harm and suicide. Talking about your own struggles, or about a song that got you through one, is welcome. Content that encourages or instructs self-harm, suicide or eating disorders isn't. If you see someone who might be at risk, report it so we can reach out with support. If you're struggling yourself, please talk to someone you trust or a local helpline: https://findahelpline.com. In an emergency, call your local emergency number.
- Violence and dangerous groups. Don't praise, support or recruit for terrorist, violent extremist or criminal organisations, and don't celebrate real-world violence.
- Private information. Don't share anyone's home address, phone number, private messages, photos or other personal details without their permission.
- Dangerous activities. Don't encourage things likely to get someone seriously hurt.
Protect young people
People aged 13 and over use Songbestie, and keeping teens safe matters more to us than anything else here.
- Never sexualise minors. No sexual content involving anyone under 18, no sexual comments about minors, and no attempts to get a young person to share sexual content. We remove it, close the account, and report it to the authorities.
- No grooming. Adults must not use Songbestie to build inappropriate relationships with minors, ask them to keep secrets, move them to other apps, or arrange to meet them.
- No bullying of young people, and no sharing of their private details.
If you see anything like this, report it right away.
Keep it real
- No spam. No repeated, unwanted or copy-paste messages, comments, friend requests or posts.
- No fake engagement. Don't use bots or scripts, and don't buy, sell or trade followers, likes or votes.
- Honest votes and rankings. Album clubs and song statistics only mean something if they're honest. Don't coordinate groups or extra accounts to push a song up or down.
- No scams. Don't trick people out of money, accounts or personal information.
- Add songs honestly. When you add a song by hand, use its real title and artist.
Respect the music and the people who make it
- Talk about lyrics freely, and quote a line that means something to you. Don't post whole lyrics, though. They belong to the songwriters.
- No links. Don't post web links anywhere people type, including links spelled out to get around this rule. It keeps Songbestie free of scams, malware and pirated music.
- Previews stay in Songbestie. Don't record, rip or reuse the 30-second previews or the album covers.
- Your photos. Only upload photos that are yours or that you have permission to use.
Nothing illegal
Don't use Songbestie to buy, sell or promote illegal goods or services (such as drugs, weapons or stolen accounts), to gamble, or to break the law in any other way.
Clubs and private clubs
- Song and album clubs are public. Stay on the topic of the music, and treat other members the way you'd want them to treat your favourite song.
- Private clubs are your group chats. Admins choose who's in, and members can leave at any time. These guidelines still apply in private. If someone in a private club makes you uncomfortable, leave, block them, or report the person.
If you see something
- Report an account, a post or a comment from its ⋯ menu. To report something from a conversation or a private club, report the person. Reports are private: the person isn't told who reported them.
- Block anyone from their profile. You'll disappear from each other on Songbestie.
- Mute a person, a chat or a club if you just need a break.
- Not using Songbestie? Anyone can tell us about illegal content by writing to support@songbestie.com.
What happens when rules are broken
We look at what happened, how serious it is, and whether it's happened before. Depending on that, we may:
- remove the content;
- remove or replace a name, photo or bio;
- suspend the account temporarily;
- close the account, for the most serious or repeated problems.
We may skip straight to closing an account for the most serious harm, such as threats, child sexual exploitation, or terrorism. When we act, we tell you by e-mail what we did, why, and how to ask us to look again. If you think we got it wrong, reply to that e-mail or write to support@songbestie.com. A person will review it. The details are in the Terms of Service, sections 12 and 13.
Our child safety standards
Songbestie has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE), including child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
- What's prohibited: everything in "Protect young people" above, including any content that sexualises minors, grooming, sextortion, and trafficking.
- How to report it: use Report in Songbestie, or write to support@songbestie.com. Anyone can also report to the authorities directly, for example through NCMEC's CyberTipline (https://report.cybertip.org) or the hotline in your country (https://www.inhope.org lists them).
- What we do: we remove the content, close the account, keep the evidence the law requires, and report it to the relevant authorities as the law requires.
- The law: we follow the child safety laws that apply to Songbestie in the countries where it's available.
- Our child safety contact: Mina Nasralla, support@songbestie.com.
These guidelines will grow
As Songbestie grows, we'll update these guidelines. We'll tell you in Songbestie or by e-mail about important changes.
